The Link Trail leaves
the FLT in a pine plantation, heading generally north to Crumb Hill Road.
Turn left on Crumb Hill Rd. and proceed 0.1 mi. to Wood Rd. Follow this
road north. The first 0.7 mi. is drivable to a turn around. Do not block
the entrance to a farm field or the driveways of the two camps there.
The trail continues alongside what is now a woods road, crosses Muller
Hill and Chapman Rds., climbs north over Carpenter Hill, then descends
steeply to reach Rt. 80 0.3 mi. east of Jones Rd. A spur trail goes 0.6
mi. to Carpenter Hill Rd. just south of the entrance to Three Springs
State Forest. Total dist. 6.9 mi.
Caution!
Crossing a creek just south of Rt. 80 can be a problem during spring run-off
or other times of heavy rain, even though a small footbridge is provided
at the ford. It might be necessary to wade deep, swift and cold water
during times of flooding. Use the Carpenter Rd. spur if you are uncertain
about crossing the stream!
